Christmas Day – Oscar Jordan Band

Not every Christmas song in the Foliot library comes from an actual Christmas CD or LP: case-in-point – “Christmas Day” by Chicago-based Oscar Jordan Band. Any guitarist who lists influences like Al DiMeola, Steve Morse, Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery, Carlos Santana, and Jimi Hendrix is bound to catch my attention, and this self-released 2001 CD is worth the price of the download.

The first time I heard “Christmas Day” I was floored – a blues/gospel original with a sense of despair, irony and hope, all wrapped up in one gripping blues-story track. (The backing gospel-like vocals and tasteful string solo adds immensely to this track.) Even if you aren’t a big blues fan, I think you’ll enjoy this one.
