On The Tenth Day of Christmas

Jingle Bells – Carlos Del Junco & Rich Greenspoon

CD cover Stuck on a Cold Steel PoleIf you’ve never heard of Carlos Del Junco before, you’ve missed out on a musician of immense talent. Carlos specializes in playing the ten hole diatonic harmonica, and is considered one of the world’s best in both the diatonic blues and the diatonic jazz musical categories. Cuban born, his family immigrated to Canada when he was very young, and he now calls Toronto home, where he continues to perform and record.

This version of Jingle Bells (unlike any version you’ve heard before) is taken from a 1995 compilation called “Stuck on a Cold Steel Pole (A Collection of Songs About Winter & Some That Aren’t)”, which features 20 extremely eclectic tracks from Toronto’s diverse arts community. The CD is kind of difficult to track down, although you can purchase it from iTunes (and curiously, only from there, and none of the other online music sources I usually shop at). Stripped down to simply Carlos on harp accompanied by Rich Greenspoon (snare and brushes), this blues-flavored track is yet another favorite (Canadian) Christmas track in the Foliot library.

Enjoy!
